Accomplished

I'm a compelling communicator and gifted researcher.

For the past three years, I've been Managing Editor and a contributing writer for AlwaysOn (founded by Red Herring founder, Tony Perkins), and program director for AlwaysOn's prestigious conferences: the Stanford Summit and AO Media

As a technology veteran, I designed and developed products from the ground up.  As a marketing professional, I have marketed and brought numerous products to market (at IBM, Kaleida Labs, and Argonaut Software).  As a market researcher, my technology and market research (wireless, digital media, content delivery, PVRs, streaming media, 3D, Internet video, set-tops) has aided many clients, including Microsoft, Oracle, RampRate, Tier-1 Research, and numerous startups.

As managing editor and contributing writer for AlwaysOn, I'm responsible for all content on our website and in our quarterly print magazine.

Dating back to my career at IBM, I've been a featured keynote speaker and crowd pleaser.  Here's a link to one my keynote speeches, given at Streaming Media West 2000.

I contributed monthly columns to Streaming Media Magazine, and have published research on content delivery networks.

Reviewers applauded my book, Playing for Profit,  for its ahead-of-the-curve insights on the future of digital entertainment (published by John Wiley & Sons, April, 1999).  PBS’ Robert X. Cringely raved “This book is so good, I wish I had written it.”   I have authored numerous technical white papers and magazine articles.  I have been interviewed on PBS and CNET, and have been quoted in the Wall Street Journal.

Oracle's Streaming ROI

ASSESSING THE ECONOMICS OF ORACLE’S STREAMING INITIATIVES

Rich Seidner

July 2002

Clients and employers love my research for its smart outside-the-box analyses that  come with powerful and actionable recommendations. My market research impresses clients with its insight, clarity, and strategic conclusions.

Oracle's marketing division needed my help in figuring out which of their streaming media initiatives (they have many) were truly paying off: what worked, what didn't, and why. Oracle wanted the real ROI, not made-up numbers that look good.  Through my comprehensive data research and analysis, which was complimented by user surveys and interviews, Oracle was able to understand how to implement high-impact, yet low-cost, changes in their use of streaming media.  Oracle management told me that "This report is gold."    The key to this success was my ability to help Oracle see beyond cliché truisms, about what their customers were doing, to reach their real business goals.

"This report is gold."

Wireless Media 2004

Microsoft's Windows Media division has been a repeat client for competitive market research and analysis of the uses of media technologies for: broadcast TV infrastructure, wireless media, and consumer markets.  A reader of my Microsoft wireless media research said “This report is so good, it gives me the shivers.”

"This research is so good, it gives me the shivers."

Tony Greenberg, CEO, RampRate, LLC

My published research into the economics and ROI of streaming media, was truly groundbreaking, and established my reputation as the world’s foremost authority on streaming media economics.  Before I conducted and published "The Cost of Streaming Services," no-one (not even the leading vendors) knew what streaming costs, what worked economically, and why.  My research changed all that, and some leading vendors changed their rate schedules as a result of my research.

"We reset our rates, based on your research."
